Emisshield developed the industry's first high emissivity coating for power transmission lines, patented as a method of forming a coated overhead conductor, and with General Cable developed the methods to apply it at production speed without adding a bottleneck, plus methods for coating cables already in service. Weatherometer testing predicted a 40-year coating and adhesion life, with resistive losses reduced 4.5%, conductor temperature rise above ambient reduced 25%, and less cable sag.

Why did it work?
